Engineers Day - Gmail Outage Challenges Google Engineers | Nation Member Sir.Visveswaraiaha

SAN FRANCISCO - A disruption to Google's Gmail service frustrated users throughout the world Tuesday and flummoxed engineers at the giant internet company.

Google said the problems started early in the morning and were not resolved until approximately 2330 GMT.
The problem prevented users from accessing Google email and stymied customers who use the popular software to sync their information with the Microsoft Outlook email programme.
In Google's Gmail forum, users claiming to be in Italy, Germany, France and Taiwan, along with users from various states in the US, reported being unable to access Gmail.

Indai and Brazil Prefer GOOGLE

Google Sites ranked as the most visited Internet property worldwide with 854 million unique visitors age 15 and older in July, an increase of 18% during the past year. It dominated in two emerging Internet markets of India and Brazil, says comScore.
Nearly 75% of all Internet users worldwide visited the Google Sites property, which accounted for 9.4% of all time spent online. Nearly one out of every ten minutes a person spends online around the world is spent on a Google site.
Google usage is more prevalent in certain global markets than others. Two particular markets stand apart from the rest in terms of their dependence on Google: Brazil and India. In July, 29.8% of total time spent online in Brazil was spent on Google Sites, with India only slightly lower at 28.9%. The next highest global market was Ireland at 15.9%.
In Brazil, Google Sites accounts for 89.5% of all searches conducted, while Google Orkut has a dominant position in social networking (96.0% of time spent), as does Google Maps in the maps category (70.9% of time spent) and Google-owned YouTube in the multimedia category (91.6%).

Bing Search Engine by MicrosoftBing Lands into Worlds Top 20 Websites.....But is that enough to give Google sleepless nights?

How much time does it take to launch a new service and bring it in to the coveted "worlds most visited" sites list? Not much if the service happens to be a Search Engine, and more importantly, if the search engine is from Microsoft. Well, it's not the most visited website as yet. However, breaking into the top 20 was cakewalk for Bing, which managed the feat in just about two months from the launch date.

So, ladies and gentlemen, it's now official. Microsoft's Bing, launched sometime in June, has now made its quiet entry into Alexa's top 20 list. It is still behind the likes of Facebook and Twitter. Strangely, Alexa's "top 20" page still lists Bing's erstwhile Avatar, Windows Live Search at the number five spot. Windows Live is dead for all practical purposes as going to live.com redirects to Bing now.

While it may have inched itself into the top 20 list, it is still way behind Google, which continues to dominate the number one position. In second place is Yahoo followed by another Google property, YouTube. Almost two months since the launch of Bing, it sure is a good sign for Microsoft about Bing's growth. However, it still has a long way to go before it can ruffle the feathers of folks over at Google in the Search Engine wars. As for Bing, its growth, in sheer numbers has been great; however, the overall usage pales in comparison to Google.
